Drake Named Best Selling Recording Artist In The World

February 27, 2019

According to IFPI, an organization that represents the recorded music industry worldwide. Drake is the Best-Selling Artist in the world for 2018

His 2018 smash album "Scorpion" definitely helped him accomplish the feat which had the viral dance-fueled hit “In My Feelings,” his Grammy-winning track “God’s Plan” and summer jam “Nice for What.” Drake is the only artist to hold the title multiple times, he earned his first in 2016.

“Drake has had an incredible, record-breaking year, one that is more than worthy of the title of Global Recording Artist of the Year,” said Frances Moore, chief executive of IFPI, in a press release. “That Drake has won this award for the second time is testament to his continued global appeal and his ability to engage and connect with fans.”

The IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year chart, which is independently verified, includes sales of albums across digital, CD and vinyl formats; singles, both downloaded and physical; and streams across the calendar year. The chart includes all the music of each artist featured, not just one track or album. It uses album equivalent units to combine measurements of downloads, physical sales and streams, according to IFPI.

Artists that have took the award in the past include Ed Sheeran (2017), Drake (2016), Adele (2015), Taylor Swift (2014) and One Direction (2013).
